Tunu Tunu is a mobile community BBQ kindly sponsored by Unison. People in the community also contribute money, food and gas to keep this wonderful concept on the road.
Our mobile BBQ donated by Unison continues to be busy. Bookings include street BBQ’s in Flaxmere and other regions as requested. Connecting whanau through a BBQ has ongoing positive results. Other agencies such as Police also attend supporting Tunu Tunu BBQ.
The Tunu Tunu has double value to U-Turn in that as well as feeding people for free, it also takes organisers Henare O’Keefe and his wife Pam into the field, meeting people, sharing their problems and encouraging the message of a safe community and safe homes for all. It becomes a unique way of delivering a message of anti-violence directly to those who want to hear it.
Through kind sponsorship, Henare was able to take Tunu Tunu to Christchurch after the second large earthquake and also to Wairoa. Both trips were a success and showed that Flaxmere is capable not only of supporting its own people but those of other communities as well.
